Financial Assistance

SCHOLARSHIPS & LOANS UNIT

  1. The Scholarships & Loans Unit administers issues regarding the welfare and finances of students in obtaining loans/scholarships or other assistance so that students are able to continue their studies despite economic burdens.
  2. The unit also aids students in dealing with documents regarding loans/sponsorships or aid in ensuring the process in completing related dealings is carried out with more ease and completeness.
  3. In emergency issues and in seeking to lighten the burden carried by students as best as possible, the unit administers students’ welfares.
  4. The Scholarships & Loans Unit is responsible for managing financial dealings that cover scholarships, loans, financial aid and student welfare and is offered by government, private, statutory body agencies to students.

INTERNAL SPONSORSHIP

UTS Undergraduate Scholarship 

Eligibility

  • 50 % of the tuition fees will be automatically funded under the UTS Undergraduate Scholarship for Sarawak citizens, once they registered in any undergraduate study programme at University of Technology Sarawak
  • The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and silver Leadership Excellence Award (LEAd) for every semester
  • Student needs to declare agreement on the Terms of Reference of the scholarship

Tuition Fees

UTS Foundation Scholarship

Eligibility

    • Student has to apply for the scholarship through UTS OCULUS after Student Registration.
    • The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for every semester, in order to retain the scholarship.
    • Student is eligible to apply for the scholarship only once for the duration of this study programme. The student will no longer be eligible to receive scholarship for any Change of Programme or Readmission purposes.
    • If the student is dismissed from study; withdraws from study; or leaves the study for any other reasons, the student has to pay back the amount of scholarship already paid for the duration of his study at UTS.
    • The scholarship recipient is obligated to continue study into any bachelor degrees at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) and graduated with a UTS Bachelor degree, after completion of the Foundation programme. If the student fails to do so, he will need to pay back the scholarship in full.
    • Tuition fees will be automatically funded in full under the UTS Foundation Scholarship for all students, once they registered in the Foundation study programme at University of Technology Sarawak.
    • Student needs to sign an agreement once application is approved.

Semester 1

  • The student must meet the minimum entry requirement to join Foundation In Science or Foundation In Art to obtain the sponsorship for Semester 1 tuition fee.
  • The student must obtain at least 4As to be eligible to get the sponsorship for hostel during Semester 1.

 

Semester 2

  • The student must obtain GPA 2.00 and above to retain the sponsorship for Semester 2 tuition fee.
  • The student must obtain GPA 2.75 and above to retain the sponsorship for hostel during Semester 2.

 

Semester 3

  • The student must obtain GPA 2.00 and above to retain the sponsorship for Semester 3 tuition fee.
  • The student must obtain GPA 2.75 and above to retain the sponsorship for hostel during Semester 3.

UTS Bursary Scheme BP40 for Sarawakian (Bumiputera)

Eligibility

  • For Bumiputera student enrolled and registered into UTS in Undergraduate in 2020 intakes onward.
  • Cover up up to 80% of the tuition fee for the duration of the study.
  • Parent’s household income under B40 and M40
  • Must obtain a credit for Bahasa Melayu in SPM or equivalent at UEC / O-Level
  • The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for every semester, in order to retain the sheme.
  • Are not receiving other scholarship
  • Quota 100 for Bumiputera student
  • Student are eligible to apply loan from Yayasan Sarawak or PTPTN to cover the remaining fee.

  • Potential student with good result

EXTERNAL SPONSORSHIP & LOAN

Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)

Eligibility

  • Must be a Malaysian citizen and does not exceed 45 years of age on the date of application
  • The value of loan is dependent on the student’s family income
  • Maintain GPA 2.0 and above every semester
  • Must apply via PTPTN website https://www.ptptn.gov.my/
  • Online application deadline: 28 February and 31 March / 31 August and 30 September

PTPTN Application Process

  • Purchase PIN number from Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) amounting RM5.05 or through PTPTN Website  The pin is valid for 6 month.
  • Open a personal account with Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB).The account will be used by PTPTN to disburse of the loan
  • Open SSPN account at PTPTN one stop centre or through PTPTN website

After Pre- Approval

  • Download the agreement from PTPTN website https://www.ptptn.gov.my/ or log into your registered email for PTPTN and print out 2 set of agreement 
  • Read all the terms and conditions,sign and paste the duty stamps of RM10 on each set of the agreement

Hard Copies Submission

  • Submit two sets of completed agreements together with UTS Offer Letter to any nearest PTPTN office / UTC

PTTN Payment

  • Estimated time to get the first payment upon PTPTN pre-approval is around 2 month. (students to check their BIMB account)

Education Scholarship - Loan

Eligibility

  • Only for Sarawakian either one of their parents are Sarawakian.
  • Need to apply PTPTN first. Once rejected then can apply for Yayasan Sarawak
  • Must obtain a credit for Bahasa Melayu in SPM or equivalent at UEC / O-Level
  • For ‘Top-up’ for tuition fees, students are required to attach the PTPTN loan offer letter.
  • Subject to term and conditions stipulated by Yayasan Sarawak

Eligibility

  • Scholarship for STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related course only.
  • Students must be a Malaysian Citizen with Sarawak Connection (either parent).
  • First Degree students pursuing studies at UTS with CGPA of 3.00 and above.
  • Research-based post graduates studies (Masters, PhD & Specialists) in specialized fields. 
  • Maintain GPA 3.0 and above every semester
  • Strong leadership skill and active participation in extracurricular activities
  • Are not receiving other scholarship or loan
  • Application form obtain in Yayasan Sarawak website

Eligibility

  • Scholarship for Non-Stem
  • Received an offer letter for Undergraduate or Postgraduate in UTS.
  • Students must be a Malaysian Citizen with Sarawak Connection (either parent).
  • Excellent academic achievement at least Grade B and above in each subject at STPM level
  • Acquire a CGPA of 3.0 and above for Foundation/ Diploma/ Matriculation/ A-Level graduate and Bachelor's Degree.
  • Strong leadership skill and active participation in extracurricular activities
  • Are not receiving other scholarship or loan.
  • Application form obtain in Yayasan Sarawak website

Eligibility

  • Funding early-stage costs for students who started their studies at UTS.
  • Students must be a Malaysian Citizen with Sarawak Connection (either parent)
  • Parents / guardians have a per capita income of RM1,500.00 and below.
  • The grant rate (no payback) as follows:
    In Sarawak : RM1,000.00

A) Foundation Programme

  • Must not be more than 21 years old at the time of application.
  • Must not be a recipient of any other scholarship from other organizations or foundations;
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extra-curricular activities e.g societies and clubs, sports, etc.
  • No other sibling or family member from SEB receiving scholarships from SEB.
  • Minimum 8As’ in SPM examination
  • Form can be obtained at Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) website

B) Undergraduate Programme

  • Must not be more than 24 years old at the time of application.
  • Currently a first-year student or applying for the first Degree at UTS
  • Must not be a recipient of any other scholarship from other organizations or foundations;
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extra-curricular activities e.g societies and clubs, sports, etc.
  • No other sibling or family member from SEB receiving scholarships from SEB.
  • Strong academic results in the SPM (Min. 8As) or CGPA of 3.30 in Foundation or equivalent at STPM/ Matriculation / Diploma level
  • Form can be obtained at Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) website

EPF Partial Withdrawal

  •  For EPF withdrawal, parents must get the EPF Withdrawal application form from any nearest EPF office or download the application form through https://www.kwsp.gov.my/en/member/withdrawals/partial/education . Kindly search and download Confirmation Letter Format.
  • Fill the form and attach it with the latest invoice/receipts from UTS Finance Department.

  • The application will be processed within 3 working days after we receive the form.
